Stranded in Sochi: Turkish Journalist Detained at Airport
It was Saturday, 4 a.m. at the Sochi Airport. “You are banned from entering Russia for five years,” the officer said. I was baffled. “We’ll send you back on the plane you arrived on,” the officer added. He did not know why I was banned, referring the issue to the FSB [Federal Security Service]. So, when is the plane taking off? The answer amounted to a declaration that I was stranded: “On Tuesday.”
