A Tea Tray Inspired by Istanbul Mosques

Zeynep Fadillioglu’s Kubbe tray looks like a modern version of the metal tea trays seen in Moroccan and Egyptian markets, but its inspiration is narrower: “kubbe” is Turkish for “dome,” and the designer was thinking of the mosques in her home city, Istanbul. Ms. Fadillioglu knows something about mosques: she led the team that designed the interiors of the strikingly modern Sakirin mosque on the Asian side of the city, whose dome is 130 feet in diameter and trickles glass raindrops from a chandelier suspended there.
