When in Istanbul…With Michael Kors

Michael Kors Resort 2013
At a recent dinner in Istanbul, where Michael Kors has three stores, the designer noticed some of the women changed outfits three times in the course of the evening.
“I was like ‘yes, yessss!’” he said Tuesday afternoon as he presented his Resort 2013 collection before a small audience of fashion journalists. “She’s not trying to go day to dinner. She’s changing three times! That works for me.” It was an amusing—and telling—anecdote. Many designers have tried to outfit the busy woman who doesn’t have time to change from work to dinner clothes so the idea of “day to night” wear, clothes that can seamlessly transition from work to an evening out, has become a common refrain. Mr. Kors’s lush resort collection was unapologetic in its embrace of women who reject such practical conformity.
