The Turkish miracle – or the Turkish schizophrenia

Abraham Lincoln’s famous dictum, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time” is often claimed to be a permutation of poet John Lydgate’s “You can please some of the people all the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.” Mr. Lydgate was probably prophesying about 21st-century Turkish politics.
