American academic and writer Mary Ann Whitten fell in love with Heybeliada, one of the Prince’s Islands in Istanbul. The result was a book she wrote about her experiences, which National Geographic Traveler selected as 'great reading that provides a sense of the city.' Whitten, together with her husband, spends half of the year in their house in Heybeliada and half of the year in their native San Francisco"
