"Turkey's EU accession process on track 14.04.2008
The European Union should admit Turkey, urges Jim Murphy, the British minister for Europe, in his article printed by the FAKT daily.
Press review by Aleksander Kropiwnicki
The process of Union enlargement has been a success story and should be continued, believes British Minister for Europe Jim Murphy. The future Turkish membership would be profitable both for Turkey and the EU. It can turn out to be as important as the accession of Central and East European states after the end of the cold war. Turkey has a good chance to become one of the ten most developed economies by 2050. The difficult process of democratic reforms is already underway in the state. Rejecting any country just for having a Muslim majority would be the best gift for radical Islamic movements. For all those reasons the United Kingdom supports and will continue to support Turkish accession, writes Jim Murphy."
