"Turkish visitors savor taste of life in Brighton

Goksin Akcali first visited the United States in 1973 and has returned in 1993 and 2008, this year as part of a Rotary-organized trip to Brighton.
Her observation is telling about how her country, Turkey, has changed in those 35 years. In the 1970s, the financial consultant said, there was no color television in her country, the government controlled everything, and blue jeans could only be purchased on the black market. No foreign currency was allowed in Turkey, which had a closed economy until 1980."
