Today is the 69th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey. Ataturk was born in 1881. He was elected the first president of the Republic of Turkey founded on October 29, 1923. With the passage of the surname law on November 21, 1934, the Turkish National Assembly bestowed on him the surname Atatürk (meaning Father of the Turks). Atatürk died at 09.05, November 10, 1938. Turkey observes a country-wide silence and flags are flown at half-mast. Hundred thousands of Turkish people visit Ataturk’s mausoleum at Anıtkabir on this day. /APA/"
