Turkish troops shelled suspected Kurdish targets inside Iraq this morning, as Nato defence ministers discussed the cross-border crisis at a summit the Netherlands.
Ankara's troop build-up along the Iraqi border continued today with witnesses reporting artillery-fire into the early hours. News also emerged of sorties by Turkish soldiers and warplanes into Iraqi territory between Sunday and Tuesday evening. Kurdish forces claimed that they were massing to repel any potential invasion.
