The European Parliament rapporteur for Turkey Ria Oomen-Ruijten's first resolution on EU-Turkey relations was approved by the Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels yesterday.The majority of 236 amendment proposals were either withdrawn or redrafted as a result of compromises by the political groups at the EU Parliament after lengthy discussions. Oomen-Ruijten described her compromise efforts and diplomatic language in the resolution as a new approach. “We need to keep the dialogue open with Turkey in order to have a strong democratic state negotiating with the European Union,” she said. "
