Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan had some encouraging words for Syria during a visit to that country on Sunday, telling reporters that his hosts have "an important role in the settling ... of problems, whether they be Iraqi, Palestinian or Lebanese." He also echoed the position voiced by Damascus regarding the regional peace conference expected to be held in the Washington area in November, namely that the agenda should include the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. "Syria's participation is necessary to reach solutions," Babacan argued. "The peace process must proceed along all tracks, including the Syrian one."
