City strikes it rich in olive oil purveyors :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Food

"...'Taste the difference'

Like at Old Town Oil, customers who visit Ta-Ze Olives & Olive Oil, 530 N. Michigan, can taste all the olive oils. Among the most popular of the 35 available are Eskisgibi, a heavy, creamy and buttery extra virgin, and Ilk El, an unfiltered green olive oil. 'The mid '90s is when finally olive oil was crossing over from being just an Italian food item to part of our American cuisine basics, a standard ingredient,' Ta-Ze manager Erik Wagner said. All of the store's olive oils are produced in Turkey's Aegean region and sold under the brand name Taris. Ta-Ze, a Turkish company, has stores in Turkey, Canada, Germany and soon Japan. The Chicago store, which opened in September 2004, is the only one in the United States."
