"OTTOMAN ENTERS MAYORAL RACE
KEN Livingstone’s chief challenger in the race to be the next Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is the great grandson of a former Ottoman Interior Minister.
The colourful statesman and MP for Henley has caused a stir by becoming the first heavyweight contender to stand as a Conservative candidate for what is usually a one-horse race.
He will now have to win over voters on the London electoral register to become one of five shortlisted Tory candidates, who will then do battle at a series of hustings.
Mr Johnson, whose great grandfather on his father’s side was Ali Kemal, a controversial Turkish journalist, confirmed on Monday that he would be putting his name forward to be the Conservative candidate."
