On election day there is an uneasy calm in the country. The military appears to be on alert just in case of any post electoral troubles. At Ankara's main railway station soldiers are on patrol. Despite the on going heat wave and drought a man hoses down the train platform where I wait for my train back to Istanbul in the 40 degree heat. The local press warns of imminent water rationing in the city. But only after the elections are held. It has been an intense and exhausting week for everyone: the politicians, the reporters covering the campaign, the pollsters and above all the voters who now have to return in the heat to their voting districts throughout the country."
