LICE, Turkey -- Last month, while Bederhan Bingol was feeding his cattle, his daughter sneaked out of her bedroom and escaped in her boyfriend's car. Soon, she was in a marriage her dad had rejected. 'What she did was very dishonorable,' says Mr. Bingol. 'For me it was worse than death.'
The elopement also alarmed Omer Bozkus, the groom's father. Wounded pride can still inspire violent revenge in this hilly stretch of southeastern Turkey.
