Istanbul, 11 Dec. (AKI) - Ankara's offer last week to break a deadlock in its EU bid by partially opening up to air and sea traffic from Cyprus has triggered tension between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Islamic-rooted AKP (Justice and Development Party) and the staunchly secular military establishment. The EU's announcement that Turkey had informed it about its concession to Cyprus - which Ankara does not recognise - came as a surprise says the Turkish military which has reacted angrily to the news."
