DUYGU ASENA fought hard over the past three decades to achieve equality for the women of Turkey. Her eight books sold in unusually large numbers, one of them reaching 45 reprints by the time of her death, and some were made into films that attracted large audiences. She was also a prolific writer of articles in the press and hosted television programmes. She founded Turkey’s first women’s magazine and even acted in three films."
