The Turco-Armenian imbroglio was part and parcel of the so-called �Eastern Question,� a term coined to describe the decline of the Ottoman Empire. That decline was partly the result of major European powers' expansionist policies, directed against the Ottoman state in order to weaken, divide and ultimately annex that state, or most parts of it."
