Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan, flanked by Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül and Economy Minister Ali Babacan (who will be leading the Turkish team at the accession talks with the European Union slated to start -- God willing -- in less than one month's time on Oct. 3) was very positive regarding the role nongovernmental organizations can play in promoting this country's EU membership bid, particularly by educating the 25 nations of the bloc about Turkey, which, according to the latest opinion polls, is unlikely to receive popular support from within many EU countries."
