Turkey entered 2005 with the wind of privatization blowing. The privatization tenders for Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Turk Telekom, Mersin and Iskenderun Seaports have been completed during the last eight months. Privatization income has so far reached about $12 billion.

The time has come for the transference of two state-run companies TUPRAS, Turkish Petroleum Refineries, and Erdemir, the Turkish Iron-Steel monopoly, which are two giant institutions of industry, to the private companies."
