The European Union (EU) will begin negotiations with Turkey on time despite the controversy, it has been indicated.
The Financial Time’s editorial comment noted that this possibility seemed likely and warned the EU to abide by its commitment towards Turkey. “Even though the EU is now paralyzed by the French and Dutch rejection of the constitutional treaty this summer, most member states appear to understand that to go back on the commitment made to Turkey at last December's summit would further damage the Union.”"
