FT Europe reports the UK presidency with Frech support, has achieved a breakthrough compromise on Turkey’s accession talks.
London and Paris are set to state that Ankara cannot join the EU before it recognises Cyprus and that October 3 talks should go ahead as planned.
Turkey is a sensitive issue in France and the recognition of Cyprus is a major stumbling block.
But the UK insists that delay in beginning entry talks with Turkey should not be undermined by the issue of Greek Cypriot recognition.
The Anglo-French plan is due be presented to EU ambassadors on Wednesday."
