Paris and London have agreed a compromise deal on Turkey, which may pave the way to EU membership talks opening in three week's time as planned.

According to the Financial Times, France and the UK have agreed that the EU should declare that Turkey cannot join the bloc until it recognises all 25 member states and that it should do so as quickly as possible.

At the moment Turkey does not recognise EU-member Cyprus and this has become the main sticking point in negotiations leading up to the official opening of entry talks with the bloc, scheduled to start on 3 October."
