Turkey Ready For EU-Entry Talks Next Month - Italian Min
ATHENS (AP)--Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said Tuesday that Turkey was ready to start European Union-entry talks next month, and shouldn't be asked to recognize Cyprus until after those negotiations begin.
'It would be a mistake to pose any additional conditions on Turkey,' Fini said after meeting Greek Foreign Minister Petros Moliviatis. 'Turkey has already fulfilled all the requirements necessary for negotiations to begin.'
Turkey's talks toward eventual E.U. membership are due to start Oct. 3, but officials in France have said Ankara should clarify its position on Cyprus before the process is launched."
