"Former president urges France to clarify stance over Turkey's EUbid

PARIS, Jan. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Former French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing on Saturday called for clarification of France'sstand over Turkey's bid for the European Union (EU) membership before the referendum on the Eu ropean constitution.
'If the French people think to say yes to the constitution is to say yes to Turkey's entrance (to EU), you'll endanger the European referendum,' he said through the French Europe 1 radio.
Reminding that talks with Turkey would last 10 to 15 years, theformer president said 'there should be a rule for the country, notonly a personal engagement of any leader,' referring to French President Jacques Chirac's stand in favor of Turkish EU bid. "
