Following the exciting news of a record $64 billion in exports, the Turkish tourism sector has similar success to report. The target of 15 million tourists for 2004 was surpassed and $13 billion in revenue is expected.
The World Tourism Organization had previously announced that Turkey would meet its target in 2010. A statement released by the Culture and Tourism Ministry says that 13.7 million foreign tourists entered Turkey in 2003. The Ministry stressed that Turkey has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. According to official data, 789,188 tourists came to Turkey in December 2004, a 22.57 percent increase over the same month in 2003. "
