"Turkish Cypriot groups call on Annan to restart initiative

A GROUP of 32 Turkish Cypriot pro-solution organisations yesterday handed a petition to the United Nations demanding an initiative towards a solution of the Cyprus problem before October 3.
The letter, addressed to UN Secretary-general Kofi Annan the groups, known collectively as the North Civil Initiative, stressed the need for new initiatives towards the settlement of the Cyprus problem.
The Initiative also noted its disappointment because �the Greek Cypriots, who said �no� in the referenda became an EU member as representatives of the whole of Cyprus, whereas Turkish Cypriots who said �yes� remained outside the EU as a community�.
The group said Turkish Cypriots continued to be isolated and no steps had been taken towards direct trade and financial aid."
