"EU lawmakers urge support for Europe constitution
STRASBOURG, France, Jan 11 (Reuters) A large majority of European Parliament lawmakers appealed today for support for the first EU constitution which risks being derailed by a series of looming national referendums.
The complex charter endorsed by EU leaders last June aims to make the bloc more democratic and workable after the accession of 10 new states last May, taking it to 25 members.
All EU countries must ratify the constitution for it to come into effect and several, including eurosceptic Britain and Denmark as well as France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Poland will hold referendums over the next two years."
