Language is a weapon of war and of the after-war. It is ammunition for making history and for writing it. This is why governments and their challengers fight over the names of things. This is why it matters whether a stretch of concrete and barbed wire running through Jerusalem and the West Bank is called a fence or a wall, a security barrier or a border. And it is the root of the argument over whether the slaughter of thousands of Armenians at the start of the 20th century was a massacre or genocide."

"Turkey's foreign policy not exclusively focused on Europe anymore

EU and Turkish flags

Like China, Brazil or the EU, Turkey in recent years has upgraded its engagement with Africa. Ankara's new interest in Africa is not just economically driven, but exemplifies a recalibration of Turkish foreign policy.

With a large delegation of some 150 business leaders and politicians in tow, Turkey's President Abdullah Gul embarked on a maiden trip last month. Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo were the destination for Gul and his entourage: a debut for a Turkish president with the goal of strengthening bilateral ties with the two African nations. Recently, it was reported that Turkey's ambassador to Israel, Ahmet Oguz Celikkol, would be replaced after less than a year. Samantha Daniels: Matchmaker in the Know: Finding Romance in Turkey

"Have you ever wondered where to find romance in Turkey?

Here's what I know...

1. Don't let the name of this wonderful country fool you, Turkey is definitely for lovers!

2. The easiest way to get from place to place is flying Turkish Air. Yes, they use little planes, but fear is always a good way of revving up romantic connection.

3. Istanbul, Turkey's capital, rivals cities like Paris and Buenos Aires as a "must see" city- the temperature, the nightlife, and the wonderful food makes for a very romantic vacation. Don't forget to take in an electric club like Reina that goes until 4am. , a restaurant like Ulas 29, which has unbelievably romantic views of the entire city and where the Sommelier is one of the most knowledgeable I have encountered or a restaurant like Zuma that hails from Hong Kong and London and where you will eat the most delicious dumplings you have ever tried."

Potentially the first club to ever break the stranglehold of the so-called 'Big Four' of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas (in the early 90s) and Trabzonspor (in the late 70s/early 80s), Bursaspor (who were only founded in 1963) are treading a well-worn path with sides such as Sivasspor mounting challenges to the established order in recent years, only to fall at the last hurdle."

"Listening to Turkey’s foreign minister: The Ottoman past looks like the future

By Daniel Kliman
Best Defense chief Turkish affairs correspondent

When Turkey's Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations one night last week, Iran dominated his remarks. He was emphatically opposed to more robust sanctions, arguing that instead what is needed is "diplomacy, diplomacy, diplomacy." Davutoglu also suggested that a glimmer of hope remains for negotiations with Iran, though he didn't provide any details. In the past, Turkey has served as a mediator between Iran and countries concerned about its nuclear program. Davutoglu played up Turkey's success in this role during his remarks. Could there be a Turkish initiative in the works? Stay tuned."
