For a Turk, one of the most pleasant features of Iran is how highly Iranians think of Turkey and Turkish people. It’s not that Turks dislike Iranians. But because of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and the government in Tehran, many – if not most – Turks have deep suspicions about their neighbors to the east. Especially with those Turks who have profound secular sensitivities, Iran – inaccurately thought of as “backward and fanatical” – is the symbol of what Turkey could become unless secularism is maintained no matter what."
