"Cyprus struggle detailed

In the article titled 'Turkey faces opposition for European Union membership over closing its ports to Cyprus,' some of the most important aspects of this situation were omitted.

First, historical facts need to be mentioned to get the full picture of the Cyprus struggle, including the fact that, in 2004, Turkish Cypriots overwhelmingly voted to unite the island under one government. Greek Cypriots overwhelmingly voted no to the reunification as outlined by the United Nations.

The EU decided to admit Cyprus into the union, despite the Greeks' poor decision not to unify the island. What a grand award for noncompliance after the Greeks promised to vote positively, effectively rewarding them for their bad behavior and allowing them to represent the entire divided island."
