True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar recently said, "It should be involved in politics instead of holding weapons in the mountains," referring to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). He also added that he would assume the risk of steps to be taken by the government in this regard. Naturally, this statement was interpreted as a call for a general amnesty and was harshly criticized. Although he later tried to clarify the meaning of his words, it's evident that his views about the Kurdish problem have changed a lot since the day he assumed leadership of the party. Once a police chief who was also a well-known expert on the fight against terrorism, he started to engage in politics on the issue. This was enough to take Agar out of the confines of the deep state, which up until recently he was seen as being affiliated with."
