"Turkey: Authorities harden their stance in the Banking Sector
20:32 - 05 June 2006 - Turkish Regulatory Authorities seem to have hardened their stance regarding the acquisition of Finansbank by National Bank of Greece. This stance seems to have stem from a kind of “economic nationalism” that is increasing in proportion with the intensification of the presence of foreign investors in the country and the intensification of Erdogan government’s privatization agenda. This tendency does not seem to be linked to the economic penetration of the biggest Greek Bank in the Turkish market, but with a greater reaction by a part of the Turkish nationalistic establishment in all the privatizations that are put forward during the last years.
