Turkish Cypriots living in the government-controlled areas in the south are likely finally to get the vote, following a recommendation on Friday by the Interior Minister Andreas Christou that the House of Representatives should approve a bill pending before its Interior Committee.
The will would allow Turkish Cypriots living in the government controlled areas to exercise their right to vote in May’s parliamentary elections.
Turkish Cypriots living in the south have until now been denied the vote, and were not even allowed to vote in the referendum on reuniting the island that was rejected by 75% of Greek Cypriots and accepted by 66% of Turkish Cypriots."
