Facing a firestorm of criticism, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday denied asserting that violence in France is the result of a ban on headscarves there, accusing the media of twisting his comments.
'What I said is clear, but I want to correct the misunderstandings and I'm calling on the media to act honestly and not deceive the public or spark tension in the country by twisting my words,' said Erdogan, speaking at a group meeting of the Justice and Development (AK) Party in Parliament."
