NICOSIA In Nicosia, the world's last divided capital city, thousands of Turkish Cypriots pour across a desolate United Nations buffer zone every morning to work at jobs in the south.

Greek Cypriots, long banned by their own government from using an international airport in the Turkish-dominated north, may now use it to fly directly to Istanbul, at a fraction of the previous cost of the trip. They won the right indirectly, thanks to their relatively new status as members of the European Union."
