Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israel's Chief of Staff Gen. Moshe Ya'alon both arrived yesterday in Ankara for talks with Turkish leaders.
The focus of the talks were different, with Abbas discussing prospects for the Middle East peace process and Ya'alon reportedly set to negotiate a $1 billion deal to let Israel upgrade Turkish fighters and tanks. Noting dissatisfaction with a previous upgrade, the Turkish side, however, is cool towards signing a new deal with Israel.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Abbas. In a move that appeared to aim at striking a balance, he also received Ya'alon together with Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi zk"
