Ankara focuses on official statements rather than on a simmering media debate

Turkish authorities appeared to be keeping a cool head in the face of a feverish domestic debate over whether the traditionally close Turkish-U.S. ties had hit a serious snag owing to the fact that mutual trust between the two NATO allies had turned into public resentment.
According to officials close to both Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his confidante, Foreign Minister Abdullah G�l, there has been no erosion of faith between Ankara and Washington, and, to the contrary, progress was made during a recent visit to Ankara by the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. "
