Turkey's prime minister says his country's democracy will be stronger now that it has a date to begin European Union membership negotiations.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan was speaking to some 4,000 supporters in the capital, Ankara, after returning from Brussels.
He told them the issue of Cyprus remained as sensitive as ever.
In Brussels, the Turkish leader agreed his country would tacitly acknowledge the Cyprus government - a key EU demand for EU entry talks to begin.
Mr Erdogan insists the protocol is not a formal recognition of Cyprus.
Turkey currently recognises the administration of the northern part of the island. "
