Turkey is 100 years old. This dossier of articles from our archive traces the modernisation of the country that succeeded the Ottoman Empire and was proclaimed a republic on 29 October 1923. It examines the political and cultural divisions that still tear its social fabric apart, and looks at the alliances and geopolitical struggles that have made Turkey a major player in the Middle East.
