The Turkish position on Russia “has always been a balancing act,” Bechev told POLITICO’s Andrew Gray from Oxford. On the one hand, Turkey is a part of NATO and has a close economic and political relationship with the European Union. And Ankara has also cultivated close political and trading ties with Ukraine.
