After Turkey’s election, woe and despair for Erdogan’s opponents

ISTANBUL — On a cold and blustery November morning along the Bosporus, Turkey woke up to find itself back in early June.

A snap election on Sunday was won handily by the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, which claimed almost 50 percent of all votes and a decisive majority once more in Turkey's 550-seat parliament. The vote restored the single-party rule that the AKP had enjoyed since 2003 until it slumped to its worst result in more than a decade in a June 7 general election.
