Scratchy-voiced and bellied liked a snowman, he beckons everyone seated in the open-air stern of the ferry to gather in close. Our craft is chugging over the Black Sea toward one of the larger islands orbiting Istanbul. Wearing a white captain's hat and blue sport coat, the round man makes a big show of presenting a lemon, a grapefruit, two tea glasses and some funny-looking instruments.
