The summary of the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) later performance under the iron grip of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calls for an analogy: Earlier stages of the AKP rule -- until mid-2011 -- meant that most of the necessary ingredients for a collective menu (that is, a social contract) to be enjoyed were all prepared and put on the table, but he managed to make a mess of it, running amok in the kitchen as the people in the hall become impatient and angry, and he is busy now preparing a dish to be served only to him and his loyal kitchen staff.
