Insights from Istanbul

HAPPYMON JACOB

I am in Istanbul now, the transcontinental city that connects the East with the West. Straddling the Bosphorus river and home to the whirling dervishes, the city never ever fails to mesmerise you. Moreover, given the confluence of civilizations, religions and ethnicities, Istanbul is one of the most tolerant cities in the world and therefore is a good place to begin a dialogue for peace among those who disagree with each other, some more violently than others. I am here to be part of an endavour to do precisely that - to attend the 60th Pugwash Annual Conference on Science and World Affairs, “Dialogue, Disarmament, and Regional and Global Security”. Turkey’s government is hosting the huge gathering of over two hundred people from around the world.
