Turkey: overnight clashes in Ankara after death demonstrator

(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, JULY 11 - Demonstrators and police clashed last night in Ankara after a young protester who was brutally beaten up by plainclothes officers on July 2 died Wednesday, Hurriyet online reports. Police fired tear gas and water cannons on youths peacefully staging a sit-in near the US embassy in Kizilay, in the city centre, to commemorate Ali Ismail Korkmaz, 19, who was pronounced dead on Wednesday. Plainclothes officers brutally attacked the boy with batons during an anti-government demonstration on June 2 in Eskisehir.
