Turkey-EU clash over protests

The European Union's Enlargement Commissioner criticized Turkey's harsh crackdown on protesters during the past week while in Istanbul to attend a conference on "Constructing a Common Future for Turkey and the EU", aimed at furthering the country's decades-long ambition to join the 27-nation bloc. His comments were slammed by Turkish Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan, also in attendance.
