Protesters in Istanbul’s Taksim Square are taking on the Islamism that came to prominence with Erdogan’s government and which they see as a threat to secularism and civil rights. But that’s the natural outcome of the end of Kemalist authoritarianism, writes Dutch author Ian Buruma.
