Southwestern Turkey, Part I: The Fertile Crescent and the airs of antiquity

Southeastern Turkey makes up nearly one-third of the country and the Tigris and Euphrates rivers originate from its mountains and wind their way through much of this region before emptying into the Persian Gulf. The northern edge of the Fertile Crescent encompasses this area: despite its very hot climate in summer and bitter cold in winter, the land is fertile so agriculture flourishes here.
