"Turkey emerges decisively from ruins of militarism
Md. Masum Billah
Turkey, the staunchly secular nation with a multi-ethnic but predominantly Islamic population, witnessed a constitutional referendum on 12 September 2010. The results showed the majority supported the constitutional amendments with 58% in favour and 42% against. This 42% 'no vote' is significant. Turks remain deeply divided over this ostensibly laudable democratic reforms, not because of their content but because of suspicions about the man driving them and his Islamist past."
